Solidifying a Client’s Presence in the Department of Defense

Lewis-Burke worked with a client university to develop a collaboration between the university and the Army Research Lab (ARL) to extend beyond the university’s currently funded UARC to develop modeling and simulation “tools” for the Department of Defense’s (DOD) new war-gaming initiative. The tools will provide virtual assessment capability to the DOD’s proposed Long Range Research Development Plan (LRRDP).  The collaboration and new initiative began with a meeting Lewis-Burke facilitated on the client’s campus and included key researchers along with representatives from the ARL as well as the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center/U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The labs provided insight to the client concerning emerging technologies and Warfighter/operational challenges and context, and the client brought the computational research to address complex modeling and simulation as well as big data challenges that the labs lack. Strategically, the initiative provides ARL and the Army a presence on the client’s campus to establish a satellite laboratory, recruit scientists and engineers, and enhance the Army’s connection to a broader innovation network.
