Ashton Lum

Ashton Lum supports Lewis-Burke clients by researching federal policies, monitoring emerging trends and developments, and providing relevant analysis of issues relating to the Department of Energy (DOE), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Previous experience in multiple state legislatures has given Ashton a unique perspective on the intersection of state and federal policy and he has developed a passion for energy issues across the board.

Issue areas: Energy, astronomy, earth observation, chemistry, physics, applied mathematics, and environment.

Additional Experience: Prior to joining Lewis-Burke, Ashton worked in the Texas Senate’s Sergeant-at-Arms Office during the 86th legislative session.  He gained additional experience in the Virginia Governor’s office as a policy intern for the Secretary of Agriculture, as an intern in the Office of Government Relations for the University of South Florida (USF), and working on a Florida state senate campaign.  Ashton also worked as a Public Policy Fellow with CRD Associates in Washington, DC, where he contributed to projects for the State University System of Florida, and handled policy research covering a diverse set of issues including healthcare, defense, and higher education.

Vital Statistics: Proudly born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Ashton graduated from USF with a B.A. in Political Science.  He is an avid supporter of all things USF and even attended their inaugural football game in 1997.  When Ashton isn’t in the office, he enjoys going for runs on the National Mall and honing his German skills.  Allegedly, he can also identify every flag in the world.
